my private galleries

March 30th, 2011 — 10:28pm

In addition to the photo by Takashi Homma in my favorite hair salon, there are several places I secretly call “my private galleries” where I enjoy seeing original art works. The Westin Hotel in Melbourne is one of them. They have maybe ten or more of Bill Henson’s photographs from his Paris Opera project. The prints are very big in real life and different to those you see in his book. It must have been so thrilling for the interior co-ordinator to buy so many of Bill Henson’s photographs for the hotel!

A must visit place in Melbourne!

Mr. Takashi Homma

March 28th, 2011 — 10:54am

When my boyfriend and I first visited our hair salon in Tokyo about 4 or 5 years ago, we were attracted to the large print of a landscape photo framed on the wall. As soon as we got out of the salon we began talking about how clean but warm it looked and we wondered who it was photographed by. On our second visit to the salon I gathered my courage and asked our hair stylist Umetsusan about the photo and he said “This is by Mr. Takashi Homma.” I’d seen his work in numerous publications but this was my first time seeing an original print and it was just so magical! So, I’d been very excited about his coming exhibition in Tokyo, ready to absorb every bit of his aesthetic but I might not be able to make it since I’m in Australia…

My tale of beatrix potter

March 27th, 2011 — 9:54pm

I’d been wanting to go and watch the ballet performance “The Tales Of Beatrix Potter” in Tokyo this March but I missed it. The programme is based on the ballet film made in 1971, performed by The Royal Ballet which crumbled my heart from the first time I watched it.

You just don't see this many animals dancing together anywhere else!

Today I wrote a long letter to my best friend living in Frankfurt using an aerogramme – a letter pad that folds into an envelop. It featured a picture of a bird and it reminded me of this swan I made a while ago.

A swan I made with mimosa leaves.

boo hoo!

This is a bad start for someone who began her blog without a camera!

I’m going through our old book collection in this house as I miss all the books that we left at our flat in Tokyo…

Family Album

March 24th, 2011 — 11:47am

So, my boyfriend and I left Japan about one week ago just to be extra cautious about the earthquake situation. Staying at my boyfriend’s parent’s house in Australia has been a real good help for us just to ease our mind a little but we are still very heartbroken and worried for the people in Tohoku area and also my family and our friends in Tokyo.

My hair is getting super long, the longest ever! But looking at photos of young Yoko Ono just made me think, ‘maybe its not too bad’ – but I know it’s long.
