Licorice Ice Cream

October 28th, 2011 — 9:56pm

Chris and I recently discovered the joy of licorice ice cream. Last weekend it tasted even better when we ate it while watching Woody Allen’s ‘Midnight In Paris’ on the big screen at our local (empty) cinema. I think we’ll do it again this weekend, not only to eat the ice cream but to revisit the dream of 1920’s Paris!

my front tooth

October 20th, 2011 — 7:02pm

My front tooth is really popping out of my teeth line. It’s been pushed upwards since I got my first wisdom teeth more than ten years ago. My dentist at the time told me that I don’t need to wear braces but now I feel like I need them! I’m a little upset however my tooth also proved that even a little something can make a change if it keeps at it. (So I’m very encouraged too).

In the hedge

October 12th, 2011 — 8:12pm

Chris’s father and his brother (who’s visiting us from England) spent all this morning trimming the top of our camellia hedge. They must have chopped quite a lot as now I can see a bit of our neighbour’s house. I noticed a big bushy hump on top of the hedge that looked like it was forgotten about. The brothers told me how they’d found a bird’s nest and a little yellow baby bird inside the tree so they’ll leave that bit untouched until the bird family leave their house for good. When I went around to see the baby bird there already was a protective mother dove sitting in her nest hiding her baby from my sight. I quickly left them alone as I didn’t want the mother to get too nervous.

I hope they still think our house is a safe place to live.

our dream stories

October 7th, 2011 — 10:12am

I was woken by a bad dream. I was really upset and disappointed because Chris and my friend Ryoko were having a fun night out without me. I told Ryoko about my dream and she told me that she had also dreamed about me on the same night which gave me a twinkle in my heart.

Ryoko dreamed that I was in a high school basketball team and that I was being scouted by some local and city pro teams. I didn’t know what to do so I asked Ryoko for advice. A city team is cool because it gets more attention but they constantly change their players. On the other hand a local team is friendlier and closer to home and people stay there for a long time. We ended up choosing the local team. Then Ryoko added, “You were wearing a pair of basketball shoes and a uniform and looking quite cool!” I really liked hearing that.

I would definitely play basketball with this uniform!

bubble battle

October 1st, 2011 — 2:17pm

While I was preparing to bake a quiche, I saw lots of bubbles coming out of our dishwasher. I panicked. I quickly opened the dishwasher and I was attacked by an avalanche of foam. It wasn’t at all nice like a bubble bath or a bubbly fountain. I scooped some of the bubbles out and pressed the start button again pretending as nothing had happened but the dishwasher made even more bubbles. Chris came to help me saying that hot water will decrease the amount of bubbles so we sprinkled hot water but it didn’t help much. He came back with a search result of vinegar which worked better, and then salt which really made the bubbles disappear! Chris frantically sprinkling salt all over the dishwasher looked like some kind of witchcraft and it made me laugh.

So, lesson one – if you ever have bubble trouble, salt and vinegar are the key to solving your problem. And please remember to never put regular detergent into a dishwasher like I did…

I had never used a dish washer before!
