Kookaburra

On my very first visit to Australia I felt so disoriented, as if I was in a jungle in Madagascar or the Amazon. I guess I was overwhelmed by the exotic surroundings, like massive tropical rain forests. Colourful birds such as cockatoos and lorikeets were just flying around, like crows in Japan. When I heard a kookaburra for the first time, I was convinced it was the sound of some wild monkeys.

Their distinctive noise still makes me look around to see where it’s coming from, like I did today.

A kookaburra on my walk.
